The construction industry is known for its physically demanding work and high safety risks. However, the mental health and wellbeing of the workforce in this industry are equally important but often neglected. To address this issue, this proposed project will carry out a comprehensive analysis of the top construction companies in New Zealand.
The aim of this project is to evaluate these companies' commitment to their workers' mental health and well-being. The study intends to bridge the gap by systematically analysing the content of the construction companies' official statements, policies, and resources that are available on their websites.
The research will use a content analysis approach to scrutinise the documents' accessibility, availability, and quality to identify evidence of proactive strategies, support systems, and the integration of mental health into overall safety and health management practices. The project will establish current practices and seek improvement opportunities in construction organisations' commitment. The findings will promote the prioritisation of mental health and well-being as an integral part of the overall health and safety management practices in the construction industry.
